Article. What makes your voice so special?
You’ve heard him many times, that boy with his special voice, the TV voice. He reads various TV trailers, audio advertisements, blockbuster trailers, etc. It is he who tempts you to buy Zepter cookware for just 45.99 dollars and informs you that only one day is left till the end of the furniture store action. You are certainly aware of the fact that it is not the same man, that there are a lot of them, but still the voice seems so familiar. You sometimes yield to its persuasion and buy something. But you have never paid attention to the voice itself, it was the information that you were interested in.
The only time you think of the voice is when you want to sell something unnecessary, probably for the same 45.99 dollars. Then you remember that persuasive Russian male voice talent which would suit so well your fancied trailer. Or can you read your advertisement yourself? After all, it can’t be that difficult. This is the way a lot of people start thinking as soon as it comes to their own money. But this is surely the way to spoil any advertising campaign: you save money on the voice talent and lose much more on the unsuccessful action. If you face this choice try to realize that any work seems easy only due to the fact that it is done professionally. An uninitiated person is quite vague about a voice talent’s work, about its peculiarities such as correct articulation, proper sound extraction, right diaphragm work, dramatics, etc.
Articulation and sound extraction influence speech purity, that is, ensure the audibility of every separate word and of a sentence as a whole. But to achieve good articulation is not that simple. Especially difficult it is when there are precise time constraints, that is, when a long text is to be read within a short time and all information is to be conveyed to the listener immediately, as there is no chance to ask to repeat. Do you think it is easy? And now imagine all the difficulties (abundance of foreign words, technical terms plus time constraints) occurring in the same text which is to be voiced lightly and naturally with good articulation. Don’t you think that the job appears to be not so easy? Yes, it is easy to speak but to make your voice worth buying is quite another matter.
