Loves? Does not love? Voice-talent and the voice.
It is nice to see that you are not alone. If you are aware of some
problems connected with your work (and every work has its specific
problems) you feel stronger. But going deep into the problem, let us
take a bite: let us brush away informational diet and taste other
people’s experience.
In fact many voice talents do not always think well of their voices.
Do you think it is impossible for a voice talent not to love one’s own
voice? Do you think it is nonsense? Strange as it may seem it happens
quite often. But the main problem in this case is the ability to
concentrate not on its weak points which irritate you so much when you
are listening to a finished or raw work. There is no sense hating the
piano if you cannot play it well or hating a brush if it does not help
you to paint a masterpiece. You must be proud of the fact that your
voice is unique and you can achieve a lot working hard at it. This is
the only way to break the deadlock!
But voice talents can run to another extreme when they indulge in
narcissism and suffer from star syndrome. This is a very unpleasant
situation. Such self-assurance can grow into arrogance, non-perception
of any criticism, stubbornness and self-satisfaction. And this is sure
to tell on the voice sounding.
If you are a voiceover star and a mega popular person in videos, audiocommercials, computer games voiceover you might be forgiven for such
behavior. But in any case preference will be given to more complaisant
voice talents, the more so because at present there is a wide choice
of male, female, childish and foreign voices.
But here a law of love comes into force: if you love your work you
will not take the wrong way because the true love makes you strive for
the best, improve your abilities. Love your work and love yourself in
it!
